Visa for professional drivers
Visa for professional drivers
General information
If you have completed German or recognized foreign qualified vocational training as a professional driver, you can be issued a visa to work as a skilled worker with vocational training qualification in accordance with Section 18a of the Residence Act (“AufenthG”). Please note our relevant checklist.
Professional drivers who do not have recognized vocational training can be issued a visa with the approval of the Federal Employment Agency under the conditions of Section 19c Paragraph 1 AufenthG in conjunction with Section 24a of the Ordinance on the Employment of Foreigners (“BeschV”).
Section 24a BeschV distinguishes between drivers who
- are already in possession of an EU/EEA driving license of classes C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D or DE and can provide evidence of their (accelerated) EU or EEA initial qualification to drive certain vehicles for the carriage of goods or passengers (paragraph 1)
or
- can earn both by successfully completing qualification measures in Germany (paragraph 2). However, you must already have a driving license that entitles you to work as a professional driver or bus driver in your country of origin.
