The German Embassy in Nairobi invites young creatives to artistically confront barriers to peace and security in today's world.

#BomoaUkuta2025 – Breaking Down Barriers to Peace and Security

More than 35 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, new and old challenges continue to shape our world. Peace feels more fragile than ever since World War II.

In this environment Germany is currently chairing the UN Peacebuilding Commission, running for a seat in the UN Security Council for the term 2027/28, and hosting this year's UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin in May (dealing with UN peacekeeping mission for example in South Sudan and DRC), and thus continues its efforts towards worldwide peace and stability.

Germany also in April co-hosted the Global Disability summit in Berlin to advance the global implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

What do you think is threatening our peaceful future? How can we achieve a world free of conflict, hunger and insecurity? What do we need to give a chance to literally everybody?

The German Embassy in Kenya invites young artists aged 15-23 to creatively explore these pressing questions through art. Whether through paintings, sculptures, photography, video, music, installations, or any other form of artistic expression we encourage you to express your vision for a more peaceful world by making a submission until June 30th, 2025

Why “Bomoa Ukuta”?

In 1989, the Berlin Wall—a physical and symbolic barrier between East and West Germany—was torn down through the courage of civil society. This peaceful revolution paved the way for a reunified, more stable, and inclusive Germany.

Today, we face new walls—barriers created by war, political divisions, resource conflicts, and environmental crises. Kenya, like many other nations, experiences the consequences firsthand: food insecurity, rising tensions over water, and growing concerns over safety and stability.

But history has shown us that barriers can be broken.

Your Voice Matters!

What obstacles stand in the way of peace and security or how would a world without war, hunger, or instability look to you?

Nini kinatuzuia kuwa na dunia salama na yenye amani?

The best entries will be showcased at the German National Day Reception beginning of October and awarded prizes.
